Singer Sewing Machine Models

Sewing machine models

From Tradition To The Latest Technology

The Singer Company has been around for over 150 years, being founded by Isaac Merritt Singer and Edward Clark, a lawyer. Singer has brought improvements to the classical sewing machine and his products soon became world wide known and sought. The sales figures grew every year and so did the production; but with so much success, he couldn’t keep producing the same Singer sewing machine models.

Innovation is the key word and Isaac Singer was known for his ingenuity. In 1885 he modified the oscillating shuttle of the sewing machine with a vibrating one. It was a big change, increasing the machine’s velocity and accuracy. Sewing machines used to be made of iron and had large, heavy mounting tables or were screwed onto wood platforms for stability; they were driven by hand through a crank-like handle. Later, the handle was exchanged for a wheel and later, with a more mechanized model came a pedal, also called a treadle.

Of course, all these “new technologies” of the time are now dwarfed by the high-end electronic technologies, nanotechnology and all the other great achievements of human kind, but without these revolutionary Singer sewing machine models, we would probably not have industrial fully automated sewing machines today. Industrial production and the new challenges it brought came later though and for a very long time the industrial sewing was made by women. They were human factories, sewing so fast that for the longest time there was no need for a change.

Today Singer sewing machine models would probably go unrecognized amongst those amazing women. Electronic technology was assimilated in time and new materials from which to build the body of the sewing machine. A lighter metal casing to protect the inner parts but not as heavy as the iron version became essential for commercial sewing machines. Also Singer has broadened its product range to fit the diversity of today’s customer wishes and needs, not only by increasing the range of sewing machines, but by adding other garment care products, like steam presses and high-performance irons for clothes.

The actual Singer sewing machine models are divided for an easier search in very basic models which are also the most affordable and find their roots in tradition, basic models which are still very much affordable, but have some extra features, not for any kind type of work though. The electronic sewing machines are the up-to-date version, having fully automated programs and features that can not only make your job easier, but allow you to get creative. The embroidery and sewing machines are the pinnacle of Singer products, highly professional and also electronic with automated programs included; you can get high quality embroideries anytime and as easy as pushing a button.

The Singer sewing machine models are as diverse as you can make them, each adding a little something extra from the previous model; improving speed and accuracy and maneuverability, The Singer Company has won its place in the market long ago. Even if during the Second World War Singer factories traded sewing machines for weapons, their devotion to their original products has paid off. Today, they are not only selling the sewing machines, but on their site, they are giving tips and advices about little projects and designs you can do at home, what can you beautify in your own style.
